Wayuu Bags-Mochilas

These mochilas are crotched by Wayuu women from the Colombian region of La Guajira.In Wayuu culture, women are leaders, they are the ones who guide and pass ancestral stories among generations. They are also healers and the community attribute some of them with supernatural powers to intervene between the living and the dead. Weaving mochilas is part of Wayuu ancestral heritage and each one serves as a form of expression to portray women's vision of the universe and revered elements of nature. Wayuu mochilas are a symbol of Colombian culture.
